The Co-optimists Rugby Club is delighted to accept an invitation from Melrose Rugby Club to compete in this years Sevens event. It is our intention to bring together an exciting and very competitive side to the Greenyards with a number of high profile names in keeping with our tradition. The team will be coached by Steve Lewis and local Melrose stalwart Scott Wight.

It is also a particular delight to attend this year as we know the club is supporting the My Name'5 Doddie charity and Doddie is a former Co-optimist. Indeed Doddie was part of our last winning team back in 1993 so it is a fabulous opportunuty for us to support him and his charity.

FCH McLeod 1939-2019

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our Hon President, Fred C H McLeod who died peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice on 25 December. Fred had been ill for some time but a deterioration in his condition required that he be admitted to the Marie Curie in mid November this year. His illness was fought with great heart and courage and not least, a great sense of humour.

Educated at Daniel Stewart's College in Edinburgh he had a great love for rugby, cricket and tennis but it was the game of rugby to which he gave his all to after his playing days were over. He went on to become President of Stewart's Melville RFC and Cricket clubs, President of the SRU and of course Secretary and President of the Co-optimist RFC. In later years Fred became an active bowler at Corstorphine and went on to become President of that club.

Fred was a committed Co-optimist and served as Committee man, Secretary and then President and Hon President over the years 1980 to 2019. With his wealth of experience in world rugby his was a steady guiding hand and was invaluable to our club in adapting to the shift from purely amateur rugby to the professional game.

He will be a great miss to the Co-optimist club and the game of rugby. Our condolences go to his daughters Angie and Carrie his son Graham, son-in-law Stuart and grandchildren Laura, Sophie, Chloe Danny, Roxanne, Hayley and Lewis
