Annual Match

East Lothian v Co-optimist RFC

Wednesday 27th April 2022

Kick Off 7.15PM

This years match will be played at the ground of Musselburgh RFC at Stoneyhill. This will be the 98th year since the fixture began when a team raised by Jock Wemyss (Haddington) and George St Clair Murray (Watsonians) competed against Haddington in  1924.

The match is played in a great spirit eptomising all that is good in the game  of rugby football. Fast running rugby and an occasion to be enjoyed by all who attend, be they players, officials or spectators.  The evening of Wednesday April 27th sees the two sides pitted against each other as a tribute to the first ever fixture for the Co-Optimists back in 1924. The East Lothian side is made up of representatives from their respective clubs Musselburgh, Preston Lodge, Haddington, Ross High, North Berwick and Dunbar. The venue alternates between these clubs each year.

The fixture remains in place today as a piece of rugby tradition untouched by the modern era.

Come along on the 27th April enjoy it.

The Co-optimists Rugby Club is delighted to accept an invitation from Melrose Rugby Club to compete in this years Sevens event. It is our intention to bring together an exciting and very competitive side to the Greenyards with a number of high profile names in keeping with our tradition. The team will be coached by Steve Lewis and local Melrose stalwart Scott Wight.

It is also a particular delight to attend this year as we know the club is supporting the My Name'5 Doddie charity and Doddie is a former Co-optimist. Indeed Doddie was part of our last winning team back in 1993 so it is a fabulous opportunuty for us to support him and his charity.
